Furnishings made by people rather than production lines: hand-loomed rugs and kilims, block-printed cushion covers, carved wood, woven palm-leaf baskets, copper kitchenware and pierced lanterns that throw patterned light. Many of these techniques are regional — Nagada weaving, Siwan basketry, Khan el-Khalili metalwork — and buying them here sends the money to the workshop rather than to a wholesaler. Sizes and colours vary slightly between pieces because each one is finished by hand.
